The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to auction 15,325 litres of seized Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) to the public to ease transportation hardship during the festive season.

National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, ACG Hussein Ejibunu made the announcement during a press briefing held at the Customs Training College, Ikeja over the weekend.

The NCS in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) launched Operation Whirlwind in June 2024 to protect the nation’s economy from the adverse effects of smuggling petroleum products.

Ejibunu highlighted the recent seizure of 613 Jerrycans of PMS with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N27,565,000 by operatives in the Lagos-Ogun axis.

“This operation has been on since 27 May 2024, and has yielded positive results, as the CGC has urged the operatives to continue sustaining the tempo until the activities of these economic saboteurs are stamped out of this country,” he said.

The coordinator disclosed that, as directed by the CGC to auction the seized PMS, a court condemnation order and all legal processes have been finalised by the office of the Legal Adviser.

“On this note, the CGC has directed for auctions of the seized product to members of the public at the rate of N10,000, per 25 litres. This will ease the transportation hardship during this festive period,” he said.
