Balogun Ndigbo of Ibadanland, Chief Alloysious Obi, has accused Igbo chief, Dr. Alex Anozie, of desecrating the stool of Olubadan with the conferment of a chieftaincy title of Ezi Ogo Ukwu N’digbo Nala on Oba Lekan Balogun.
He said it was an insult for anybody to confer chieftaincy title on any traditional ruler in the country, not to talk of someone of the status of Olubadan, stating that doing such was nothing but an affront on the stool of Olubadan.
He said Anozie had no right to confer any Igbo chieftaincy title on Oba Balogun, who is a first class monarch and respected traditional ruler that deserved to be honoured at all times. He said the Igbo had great respect for traditional institutions, especially that of the Olubadan.
Obi warned Anozie to stop putting the Igbo in bad light by engaging in what is not allowed in Iboland in other parts of the country. He tasked Anozie to concern himself with things that would bring honour to Iboland.
He said: “I found it ridiculous that an individual would just wake up and say he is conferring a chieftaincy title on the occupant of the revered stool of Olubadan. Ffor Anozie to do such, it is nothing but desecration of Olubadan stool and it should be condemned by those who mean well for Ibadanland. It is my candid view that the people of Ibadanland should this time around come together and put a stop to what I can only describe as an insult to the Olubadan stool as I know that Igbos have great respect for traditional institution.”
