Youths, motorists seek Tinubu, Okpe’s intervention as Delta roads deteriorate

Concerned youths and road users have urged President Bola Tinubu and the Delta State Government to intervene in the deteriorating condition of roads linking Edo State, Warri, Asaba and Ebu in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The group, under the aegis of Concerned Nigerian Youths and Road Users Nationwide, said the worsening condition of the roads had subjected motorists, traders, farmers, students, transport operators and other residents to severe hardship.

In a statement by Godspower Chukwudi Ekpoluonye the group said the roads had deteriorated to a level requiring immediate government intervention.

It said the road leading to Ebu was particularly deplorable, becoming almost impassable during heavy rainfall and leaving travellers stranded for hours while disrupting the movement of people and goods.

According to the group, the poor state of the roads has also resulted in higher transport fares, increased vehicle maintenance costs, disruption of businesses and greater risks to motorists and other road users.

The group urged the Federal and Delta State governments to set aside political differences and work together to rehabilitate and reconstruct the affected roads.

“No Nigerian should have to fear for their safety simply because they are travelling from one community to another.”

Ekpoluonye described the appeal as a non-political demand for urgent action, saying immediate intervention would restore access to affected communities, improve the movement of goods and people and stimulate economic activities.

He said good roads would also reduce transportation costs, improve the livelihoods of residents and support farmers, traders and other businesses that depend on the affected routes.

The group warned that further delay could worsen the economic and social consequences of the deteriorating infrastructure, urging the authorities to treat the matter as an urgent infrastructure and humanitarian issue.

It appealed to President Tinubu and the Delta State Government to prioritise the affected roads and commence remedial works before the situation deteriorates further.
