Barely 48 hours after an attack on Akpachi in Ugboju and Otukpo Nobi, all in Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, by suspected armed herders, which claimed 18 lives, one person has again been killed in Ondo, also in Ugboju of Otukpo LGA.
Our correspondent gathered that the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, resulting in an outbreak of tension in the area.
The chairman of Otukpo LGA, Maxwell Ogiri, who confirmed the attack to newsmen by phone, said an indigene was killed.
Ogiri also said security agencies repelled the attackers and are still combing the forest in search of the bandits.
The council boss dispelled rumours of a widespread crisis in the area, maintaining that security agencies have restored normalcy.

Ogiri said, “There is crisis in Ondo but it is not too much. It was repelled. After the loss of an indigene. The combined security are combing the forest in search of the bandits. The situation is calm when they saw that security agencies were responding with immediate effect, there is a lot of calm now”.
When contacted, the Benue State Police Command confirmed the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, explained that, “At about 0610hrs, we received information that unknown gunmen attacked Ondo, Ugboju in Otukpo LGA of Benue State.”
She said, “One Sunday Ogoh, the youth chairman, sadly lost his life, while the head of Ondo and others who were wounded were rushed to the hospital.”
Edet said tactical teams, senior officers, vigilante groups, civil protection guards and other sister security agencies are making concerted efforts to arrest the culprits.
