The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Ogun State Police Command, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Oluseyi Babaseyi has remained student of Federal College of Education Abeokuta, Ogun State that they are part of stakeholders in the affairs of national security.
“Security is not the responsibility of the police alone. It is a collective responsibility involving government, security agencies, communities, families and, most importantly, responsible citizens,” Babaseyi stated.
He disclosed this at a one day summit organised by the students Parliamentary Council with the theme: “From Campus to Nation: Mobilising for Peace, Security and Development”.
In his address, Babaseyi acknowledged the students as young Nigerians whose energy, ideas and choices will significantly shape the future of the nation.
He described the theme as timely and instructive, adding that the campus is not merely a place for academic pursuit, but a training ground for future leaders and responsible citizens who participate in society affairs.
The PPRO charged the students to be part of national security and urged them to reject cultism, drug abuse, violence, cybercrime, political thuggery and every form of criminality that can destroy their future.

He noted: “Cultism is not a sign of strength or superiority. It feeds on low self-esteem, insecurity and the desire for validation, belonging or protection. True strength is found in self-confidence, discipline, character and the courage to stand independently without hiding behind a group. Do not allow anyone to recruit you into activities that will turn your youthful energy into a tool for violence”.
“In this digital age, your phones and social media platforms can either promote peace or create serious security challenges. Think before you post, verify before you share, and never use social media to spread rumours, hate, incitement or unverified information.
“As we approach the 2027 general elections, Nigerian youths must choose the path of peaceful participation, issue-based engagement and respect for democratic processes. Your voice matters, but it must be expressed responsibly.”
According to him, policing becomes effective when citizens cooperate with the police and charged them, “see something, say something. Provide credible information, support lawful security initiatives and maintain peaceful relationships within your communities.
Babaseyi remained the students that the nation they desire tomorrow begins with the choices they make today, saying, “from the classroom to the community, and from the campus to the nation, let us choose peace, responsibility, integrity and service.”
He acknowledged that the summit would inspire a new generation of young Nigerians who will not only demand a better Nigeria but will also take responsibility for building one.
