Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab and a former gubernatorial candidate, Babatunde Gbadamosi on Wednesday clashed over the enforcement of the state’s environmental regulations.
On Tuesday, Wahab took to X to announce the sealing of I-Fitness Gym, Jakande Round-about, Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, Lagos, by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO).
The commissioner said the facility was sealed over indiscriminate discharge of raw sewage into public drains via pipe, thereby causing public nuisance and environmental pollution as well as endangering human health.
Reacting, Gbadamosi, the 2019 candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP), accused the commissioner of overzealousness.

Gbadamosi said, “All that you seem to know is, shutting down this, or demolishing that, and then running gleefully to social media to announce your folly, without providing any single solution to the problems you observe.
“Now, in this singular case of illegal sewage discharge, what practical solutions have you, in your capacity as a Commissioner for Environment, provided for the millions of businesses and residences across Lagos State that have only their soakaways to rely on for the disposal of sewage, when those soakaways inevitably overflow?”
Responding, the commissioner said he would not dignify Gbadamosi’s comment with a response.
“The attention you seek, trust me, you will not get it. Quite simply, you are not worth the time or engagement,” he said.
