You have 48 hrs to apologise – Wike-led PDP faction tells APC national scribe

Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike

By John Ogunsemore

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Nyesom Wike has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, to apologise to the FCT minister.

This is contained in a Tuesday statement signed by factional Zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP South-South, Etim Isong.

Daily Sun recalls that the APC scribe recently charged Wike to resign as FCT minister to focus on his “obsession” with Rivers State politics.

The minister also hit back at Basiru, whom he asked to steer clear of Rivers politics.

In Tuesday’s statement, Isong accused Basiru of launching a “personal attack” on Wike.

He described the APC scribe’s remark about the minister as inappropriate and capable of undermining President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Isong said that, having failed to produce an APC governor in his native Osun State in 2023, Basiru was not qualified to question Wike’s relevance in Rivers politics.

“To imply that Minister Wike’s support for President Tinubu is no different from that of other non-APC supporters is a clear indicator of amateurish political judgment,” the PDP zonal spokesman said.

According to the statement, Basiru’s call on Wike to resign portrayed the APC scribe as an enemy of the Tinubu administration.

“Senator Basiru’s call for the resignation of a performing minister like Nyesom Wike portrays him as an opponent of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and an enemy of the Nigerian state,” the statement reads.

Isong said Basiru has shown he is unfit to be the APC national secretary and should therefore resign.

He said Basiru must tender a public apology to Wike and the people of Rivers state within 48 hours or risk being declared persona non grata in the state.

“He has 48 hours to issue a full apology to Minister Nyesom Wike and the people of Rivers state,” the statement further reads.
