Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has reacted to President Donald Trump’s threat to sever trade ties over his government’s refusal to assist the United States in its military attacks on Iran.
In his response, Sánchez warned Trump to stop “playing Russian roulette with the destiny of millions,” as tensions continue to rise over the widening conflict in the Middle East.
“You can’t play Russian roulette with the destiny of millions,” Sánchez said in a strongly worded address. “Nobody knows for sure what will happen now. Even the objectives of those who launched the first attack are unclear.”

The row between the two allies erupted after Spain refused to allow the US to use jointly operated military bases in southern Spain for operations linked to the attacks on Iran. The decision reportedly angered Washington, with Trump threatening to cut off trade relations with Madrid.
Responding to the threat, Sánchez made it clear that Spain would not support actions it believes could worsen global instability simply out of fear of political retaliation.
He warned that wars often spiral beyond control, stressing that history has shown how military conflicts in the Middle East can trigger humanitarian crises, economic shocks and years of global insecurity.
