Singer Davido has reiterated his place as one of those behind the promotion of the afrobeats genre on the planet.

While speaking in the latest issue of TheBeatJuice magazine, Davido boasted that afrobeats cannot be talked about without his name being mentioned.

The artist is widely regarded as one of the big three in the genre, alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid.

“Afrobeats can’t be brought up without my name. Impossible,” he stated.

Still on the topic, Davido who appeared in an episode of the Business Untitled Podcast, decried the categorisation of all African artists into the Afrobeats genre regardless of their musical styles.

He clarified that he is not offended by it but revealed his preference for being known as an “afro-fusion” artist.

“I don’t get offended when we’ve been categorised as Afrobeats. I mean, we need a genre. It could be R&B or Afropop.

“I call my music Afrofusion but I’m not big on ‘O put Afrofusion on my song.’ I know how long it took for African music to become mainstream,” Davido said.
