Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has backed Barcelona teenage sensation Lamine Yamal to develop into one of football’s all-time greats, praising the youngster’s rapid rise at club and international level.
De la Fuente made the assessment in comments shared by football transfer on X yesterday, describing Yamal as a player “on his way to become an absolute football legend”.
The Spain coach also placed Yamal among the country’s leading contenders for the Ballon d’Or, saying he would regard the teenager as Spain’s standout candidate if he were the only Spaniard in contention.
“If he was the only Spanish player in the run for Ballon d’Or, I’d say he’s the absolute best,” De la Fuente said.
However, the coach stressed that Spain have several players worthy of recognition and that he would not overlook their contributions.
“There are more of our players and I respect them,” he added.
Yamal has continued to establish himself as one of the most exciting young talents in world football, delivering impressive performances for Barcelona and Spain despite his age.
His progress has also seen him take on an increasingly important role for the national team, further strengthening expectations around his long-term potential.
De la Fuente’s latest comments underline the confidence within the Spanish camp that Yamal can develop beyond his current status as a teenage star and become one of the defining players of his generation.
