The Governing Council of the Yakubu Gowon University has approved the appointment of Malam Mohammed Sambo as the Acting Registrar of the institution.

University spokesman Dr Habib Yakoob, in a statement on Monday, noted that the Chairman of the Council, Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso, announced the decision at the end of the 80th extraordinary meeting of Council held at the weekend in Abuja.

He said the appointment takes effect from Tuesday, 11 November 2025, and will last for three months.

Sambo succeeds Mrs Roseline Adakayi, who was appointed in May 2025 for a period of six months.

Until his appointment, Sambo served in various strategic positions in the university, including most recently as deputy registrar, Council Division.

The newly appointed acting registrar, in line with the university’s governance structure, shall be responsible to the vice-chancellor and shall serve as secretary to the University Governing Council.

Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mathew Adamu, congratulated the new acting Registrar and described the appointment as a welcome development that would help consolidate administrative efficiency.

Prof. Adamu charged him to uphold professionalism, integrity, and teamwork “as we continue to work together to lift the University higher.”

The acting vice-chancellor also commended Mrs Roseline Adakayi for her “good work” during her service as acting registrar, noting that her contributions helped to stabilise the system.
