Lawmaker representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Yusuf Buba Yakub, has expressed his desire to vie for the position of Speaker when the Ninth House of Representatives gets inaugurated in June this year.

The lawmaker hails from Adamawa State, North East. Yakub revealed this yesterday when members of a socioc-ultural group, Igbos for One Nigeria (IFON), led by its leaders, paid him a courtesy call.

The Adamawa State-born lawmaker and former National Chairman of one of the registered political parties, Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD) said: “In whatever corner we are across the country, we must use what we do to contribute to the development of our nation. Government’s involvement in all of these is minimal. Theirs is to create an enabling environment for us to succeed in our initiatives.

“We are asking that the position of Speaker, House of Representatives be retained in our geopolitical zone by our Party leadership and the entire country. As a member of the APC, I want to succeed my brother, Speaker Dogara so I can continue from where he stops and be able to bring the programmes that I have run in my Constituency these past years to all parts of Nigeria in order to address the heightening cases of unemployment and youth restiveness in some parts of the country.”
