The Head, Media and Publicity of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Dele Oyewale, has said the former Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello remains on the commission’s wanted list.

Oyewale reaffirmed this in a Tuesday morning interview with Nigeria Info 99.3FM, Lagos.

He said, “As long as Yahaya Bello is concerned, he remains wanted. And until we’re able to bring him to justice, he will remain in that status.”

He said declaring a fleeing suspect wanted is a standard practice across the world.

According to him, some suspect would resist arrest, go underground or make themselves unreachable by any means.

The commission’s spokesman said he would not share with the public what measures were being taken by the EFCC to bring the fugitive to justice.

Oyewale added, “We are a law-abiding anti-corruption agency. We operate within the ambit of the rule of law.

“That day at his house when he resisted arrest, we decided not to resort to any extrajudicial measure.”

Daily Sun recalls that the EFCC declared Yahaya Bello wanted on April 18, 2024.

This was after the ex-governor failed to present himself for arraignment over an N80.2 billion money laundering case.

The EFCC had been granted a warrant of arrest by the Federal High Court in Abuja to apprehend the former governor.

However, the anti-graft commission’s attempt to arrest Bello on Wednesday, April 17 was foiled by the intervention of security personnel attached to incumbent Kogi governor, Usman Ododo.
