Chinese President Xi Jinping, has congratulated the newly appointed Governor General of Canada, Louise Arbour.
In the message sent by Xi on June 8, 2026, he congratulated Arbour on her appointment as the 31st Governor General of Canada.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China stated that President Xi, in the message, noted that the healthy and stable development of China-Canada relations served the common interests of both countries.
Xi also said the cordial relations contributed to world peace, stability, development and prosperity.
“He attaches high importance to the development of China-Canada relations and stands ready to work with Governor General Arbour, in the spirit of mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win outcomes and seeking common ground while shelving differences, to move forward the China-Canada new strategic partnership on a healthy, stable and sustainable track, so as to better benefit the two peoples,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
