Xabi Alonso leaves Real Madrid after seven months

Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso has parted ways with the club after seven months in charge.

The club named Real Madrid’s B team coach, Alvaro Arbeloa as his replacement.

The club announced the manager’s departure in a statement, saying the decision was by “mutual agreement”.

The statement further reads, “Xabi Alonso will always have the affection and admiration of all Madrid fans because he is a Real Madrid legend and has always represented the values of our club. Real Madrid will always be his home.

“Our club thanks Alonso and his entire technical team for their work and dedication during this time, and wishes them the best of luck in this new stage of their lives.”

Alonso, 44, left the job barely a day after losing 3-2 to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia.

The capital club also sit in second spot in La Liga, four points behind their arch rivals.

Real Madrid equally sit in seventh spot in the UCL after six games, having won four and lost two in Europe’s elite club competition.

Alonso guided German side, Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title in 2024, drawing interest from Europe’s elite teams.

Real Madrid subsequently named him as replacement for departing Carlo Ancelotti and he took over in the summer.
