General Manager, Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel, Raza Ahmed, has tasked the Nigerian government to invest in tourism because it can help to inspire the youth and also lead to infrastructural development.
The disclosure was made during the World Tourism Day (WTD) celebration, organised by the hospitality outfit, which brought together ambassadors, expatriates, and business associates, who assembled at the hotel’s Idera Hall on Victoria Island, Lagos, recently.
The theme of this year’s WTD was: ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’, with local expression: ‘One World, Many Cultures.’ It drew attention to the hotel’s commitment to cultural connection, sustainability, and hospitality.
Ahmed, in his address, described the gathering as a means to celebrate and promote tourism in Nigeria and show the world the positive image of Africa at large.
His words: “Today, tourism is bringing a huge impact and potential to this country and we have a responsibility on our part to present the right image of tourism. We are also using this medium to showcase what we are capable of.
“Our talent, the services that we offer, the sustainability programmes that we have embarked on and show the global community that we are capable of achieving any global standard that they are used to when they go to any part of the world.”

“To improve or to help tourism in Nigeria, the government really needs to invest in the youth and infrastructure. With this on ground, I think our tourism standard will improve,” he stated.
In a similar development, Executive Assistant Manager, Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel, Yusuf Sesay, explained business tourism in Nigeria would only grow if the government keeps to their promises.
“Businessmen come to spend all forms of currency and at the end of the day, it’s positive contribution to Nigeria. The country’s economy is huge, there’s a large demand for whatever you are selling.
In Nigeria, we have the beach, wildlife places and diverse culture, if we try to market these things actively, a lot of people will jostle to storm the country for leisure.”
