Amid the worsening food crisis, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Tabitha Abimbola Foundation, has called for more support for the vulnerable, especially women and children.

To raise awareness on the importance of assisting those in need, the foundation organised a walk on Wednesday in Lagos, where the founder, Abimbola Adebiyi, emphasised the seriousness of the situation, citing World Bank reports that over a million people in Nigeria face severe food insecurity.

“We focus on helping indigent women and less privileged children. Our recent walkathon aimed to raise awareness about hunger and malnutrition, especially on World Food Day. To address this, we need collective action from nongovernmental organisations, corporate individuals, and governments. Agriculture, particularly homegrown farming, is crucial to solving Nigeria’s food challenges,” she said.

Abimbola said the foundation had collaborated with the Lagos State Government, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, and Ministry of Health because, according to her, nobody could do it alone.

“We’ve enjoyed support from the government, and we’re grateful for that. Recently, we were part of an initiative that supported over 2,000 women with cash to boost their businesses. Our upcoming project, Free Health, will provide free health insurance to 200 women,” she said.
