Argentina coach, Lionel Scaloni has confirmed that captain, Lionel Messi would be missing from his starting lineup against Jordan in their final Group J game at the ongoing World Cup.

This was confirmed in a video shared by football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.

As shown in the video, the confirmation came during an interview with legendary 91-year-old journalist, Enrique Macaya Márquez, who is covering his 18th World Cup.

Argentina face Jordan at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas at 3:00 am WAT on Sunday.

The defending champions go into the game as group leaders, following emphatic victories against Algeria and Austria, where Messi grabbed a hat-trick and brace respectively.

But Scaloni said the talismanic forward would not start the last group game.

He said, “It’s a pleasure to be able to answer your question. We’ve known each other for a long time. When I played in Argentina, I never stopped watching him. I’ll answer your question because it’s you Leo is going to start on the bench.

“I would never reply to any journalist on this topic right now… but because it is coming from you, I will tell you Messi will not start.”
