World Breastfeeding Week: First Lady urges mothers to embrace healthy living

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has urged mothers, particularly lactating mothers, to embrace healthy lifestyles and eat nutritious foods for their well-being and that of their children.

In a message to commemorate World Breastfeeding Week 2026, Mrs Tinubu joined the global community in supporting this year’s theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.”

She underscored the importance of breastfeeding, describing it as the foundation for a child’s healthy growth and lifelong development.

“As we commemorate World Breastfeeding Week 2026, I join the global community in support of this year’s theme: ‘Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works,’” she said.

The First Lady noted that breastfeeding remains a vital investment in families and the nation.

“Breastfeeding lays the foundation for a child’s healthy growth and lifelong development, making it a vital investment in families and a nation,” she said.

She called on mothers to prioritise their health while caring for their children.

“I encourage mothers, especially lactating mothers, to embrace healthy lifestyles and eat nutritious foods for their well-being and that of their children,” Mrs Tinubu said.

She concluded her message by wishing mothers and families a happy World Breastfeeding Week.
