Farah Dagogo, former House of Representatives member and 2023 Rivers State governorship aspirant, has lauded Nigerian workers for their resilience and commitment to nation-building as they mark International Workers’ Day 2025.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Dagogo described workers in public and private sectors as the backbone of Nigeria’s growth, sustaining key sectors despite socio-economic challenges.
“Workers remain the bedrock of any society,” he said. “Their sacrifice, dedication, and professionalism deserve our deepest appreciation. In the face of daunting challenges, Nigerian workers have continued to rise to the occasion. The general populace is truly in your debt.”
He encouraged workers, particularly those in hazardous or strenuous conditions, to remain steadfast, assuring them their efforts are recognised.
Dagogo urged employers to align workers’ welfare with Nigeria’s economic realities, stressing the need for comprehensive reforms in health, education, security, and infrastructure. “Government policies in recent years have exposed the decay in critical sectors,” he said. “A comprehensive and aggressive reform agenda must now be a national priority.”
He called on governments at all levels to prioritise worker welfare and adopt development strategies that address the workforce’s needs. “As we mark another Workers’ Day amid severe economic pressures, I advocate for improved welfare packages that reflect the courage and sacrifices made daily by our workforce,” Dagogo said. “Their safety, stability, and livelihoods must be protected.”
As an employer, Dagogo reiterated his commitment to enhancing his staff’s welfare, stating, “I regularly review and enhance the welfare of my staff in appreciation of their contributions. This is my modest way of saying ‘thank you’ for their invaluable service.” He also urged workers to pray for Nigeria’s prosperity and for wisdom to guide the nation’s leaders.
