It was a moment of joy recently when members of Ikeja Platinum Lions Club installed Mr. Eshiet Usen Michael as president and inducted new officers for the 2017/2018 Lions Service Year. The event, which held at the Youth Sports Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, was organised by the International Lions Clubs, under the Ikeja Platinum Lions Club District 404B2 Nigeria. It was well attended by club members, relations and friends of the inductees. The occasion was also used to raise funds for the activities of the club.
In his goodwill message, Mr. Ayobola Samuel, the District Governor of the club, charged the incoming president and other inductees to be mindful of the responsibilities their new positions. He reminded them that they had a duty to justify the confidence reposed in them by the members.
He also reminded them about the five key areas of focus of the Lions, which include diabetes, vision, relieving hunger, paediatric cancer and environment, and urged them to make the areas their priority so as to make positive impact on the lives of people. Above all, he enjoined them to strive for excellence in team spirit, service delivery and expansion of membership.
In his acceptance speech, the Ikeja Platinum Lions Club president, Mr. Eshiet, called for team spirit among his members to enable him succeed. He said his leadership would focus on free eye screening, hunger reduction through feeding, donation of foodstuff and provisions to orphanage homes, empowering the youth through skill acquisition, and planting trees in selected schools in Lagos State, among others.
During an interactive session with newsmen, some of the dignitaries who attended the event, among them Prince Ubong Etuk, national president, Akwa Ibom Indigenes Development Initiative, Lagos, vouchsafed for the antecedence of Mr. Eshiet as an achiever. He expressed the belief that his leadership would witness rapid implementation of the set projects.
The high point of the event was the public presentation of Eshiet as the president and the induction of officers, amid joy and jubilation.
Members of the club and some guests reminded Eshiet about the primary focus of Lions International, which is to promote the principle of good governance and citizenship.
The ceremony came to a climax with the enthralling display in which the club members and guests were entertained by an Asian cultural group.
