A prize pool of two million was up for grabs as the ‘Fight for Asiwaju 2027’ boxing championship came to an end.
The four-day event featured 54 bouts, showcasing talented male and female boxers.
Honourable Akinola Idowu Dodo, Orile-Agege’s Executive Chairman, participated in a VIP Exhibition Fight, demonstrating shadow boxing skills after his opponent failed to show up.
In Bout No. 48 (45-50kg category), Warris Onifade faced Shokunbi Farouq in a fierce contest, with Warris impressing fans and winning by Unanimous Decision.
Warris dedicated his victory to his father, saying, “I want to dedicate my win to my dad as he told me I’d be champion. He’s been present at all my fights. I didn’t slow down, even though I could have knocked him out. Boxing is unpredictable; he’s skilled too.”
Hon. Idowu expressed gratitude to the boxers, coaches, and the Lagos State Boxing Association for their technical support.
He reaffirmed his dedication to youth empowerment through sports and urged residents to obtain their PVCs and participate actively in the 2027 elections.
Additionally, regarding the new boxing ring for the “Fight for Asiwaju 2027,’ Liadi Oladipo, Chairman of the Orile-Agege LCDA Sports Committee, assured it will be well utilised.
