Wike will respond to Tambuwal’s criticism in due course – Olayinka

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike will “in due course” provide an appropriate response to comments made last Friday by former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, according to Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

In a statement released on Monday, Olayinka assured that the FCT Minister would not let Tambuwal’s recent remarks against him and President Bola Tinubu go unanswered. “I have been inundated with calls, especially from journalists, seeking the Minister’s reaction,” Olayinka said.

“Apart from what he said against the Minister, Tambuwal also cast aspersions on President Tinubu and such will not go unresponded to,” he added.

Tambuwal, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme last Friday, had declared that his political decisions were driven by principles of leadership rather than personal relationships. He further stated that if forced to choose who should lead the country, he would back former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over Wike.

Olayinka, responding, remarked that “what I can say is that the Minister will respond accordingly. He will definitely tell Nigerians what a betrayal is and what it means to have integrity. Till then, let’s keep our fingers crossed.”

The exchange adds to the growing tension among political figures ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming electoral contests.
