Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans by the FCT Administration to provide essential infrastructure in the newly designated Waru-Pozema District, Cadastral Zone D16, to encourage residents and developers to commence development.

Wike disclosed this yesterday while addressing journalists after inspecting several ongoing projects across Abuja. He said the administration would liaise with relevant agencies, including the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), to assess what provisions already exist in the 2026 budget and determine the next course of action.

“Regarding the new district of Waru-Pozema in Cadastral Zone D16, we have to find out from the FCDA or the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) what they have in mind, and whether it is in the 2026 budget,” Wike explained. “Don’t worry, we will do everything we can to provide the needed infrastructure and open up the district so that people can move in.”

Wike emphasised that his frequent inspection of developmental projects was driven by dedication to service and the trust reposed in him by President Bola Tinubu.

“For the President to have confidence in you and give you an assignment, you have no choice but to be committed to the job,” he said.

Minister also expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on major projects in the city, including the Judges Quarters in Katampe, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Road CN2 in Katampe/Gishiri, and the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) carriageways.

Speaking after Thursday’s inspection tour, Wike said the contractor handling the Court of Appeal project has pledged to deliver the complex by May 2026, while work at the Judges Quarters — comprising 10 duplexes for the Federal High Court, 20 for the FCT High Court, and 10 for the Court of Appeal — was nearing completion.

He noted that the Federal High Court section was already being furnished and that the entire project would be inaugurated as part of President Tinubu’s third anniversary celebration.

“I’m very much impressed with what the CGC is doing. It’s one of those companies that when they give you their words, you can go to the bank with it. I’m also impressed with the way the FCDA has supervised the job to this level.”

Wike further stressed that his work ethic is fueled by the support of President Tinubu, adding, “For the President to have confidence in you and give you an assignment like this, you have no choice but to be committed to the job. The motivation is because Mr. President has given us the necessary support.”

On political matters, the minister commented on ongoing reconciliation efforts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said genuine unity must come before effective reconciliation can occur.

“The first thing is to be united, and then you now talk about the next step. Everybody has said reconciliation; if indeed we are truly sincere in reconciling, obviously we have chances. But for me, the first thing now is to make sure the party is united,” he stated.

Reflecting on the PDP’s recent performance in the FCT council elections, Wike noted that the party exceeded expectations by winning 17 seats, including the Gwagwalada Area Council. He said further strategic decisions would follow the party’s forthcoming national convention scheduled for March 29–30.
