Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is set to commission two key road projects and kick-start construction on 12 new roads, alongside the deployment of solar lighting under the revitalized Light Up Abuja Programme, according to a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

These activities will begin Thursday, September 18, 2025, and continue through to October 16, marking a significant boost to infrastructure development across the Federal Capital City (FCC).

Olayinka said the Minister will inaugurate access roads in Sector Centre B of the Dakibiyu District, as well as the newly built Roads ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street) in Mabushi District.

Among the ambitious projects to be launched, the minister will oversee the rollout of integrated hybrid solar lighting across major districts including Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, and the Central Business District, as well as along key expressways such as the Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki I and II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.

The portfolio further includes comprehensive developments such as the full scope upgrade of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II, the construction of Northern Parkway connecting Ring Road II to Ring Road III, and an access road to the Mabushi Bus Terminal at Cadastral Zone B06. Other key projects flagged off will be the continuation of Arterial N20 (Solomon Lar Way) linking Arterial N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Airport Expressway, construction of access routes to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in Karsana West District, and a new bypass road around the Airport Second Runway from Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki Settlement, featuring a four-span bridge.

Additional initiatives comprise access road construction for the FCT Fire Service Station and erosion control with three bridges in Kaura District, a transit way connecting Central Area with Wuse District equipped with two bridges, and the design and construction of Mohammed Isa Road Extension in Asokoro District’s Cadastral Zone A04.

Further infrastructural improvements include the rehabilitation of 15km of Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction, engineering works in Guzape A09 neighborhood layouts, and the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) linking Yemi Osinbajo Way to Wole Soyinka Way within Katampe District.

Minister Wike will also initiate the design and building of residences for high-ranking judiciary members including the President of the Court of Appeal, the Federal High Court Chief Judge, the Chief Judge of the FCT, Abuja, and the President of the Industrial Court.

This batch of projects follows recent infrastructure developments flagged off by Minister Wike, including the commencement of water supply expansion to satellite towns such as Bwari Township and Karu Town, multi-purpose sports centre construction in Kafe District, a new Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and emergency rehabilitation of critical roads within Karu satellite town.
