Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his supporters, on Wednesday gave a rousing welcome to the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, on a two-day visit.
The President-elect arrived in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, ahead of the inauguration of the 12th flyover built by the Wike-led government and Magistrate Court complex.
Tinubu was invited by Governor Wike and was received by the governor and his entourage amid tight security at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The jet that conveyed the President-elect touched down at the airport at 10:03 am on Wednesday.
Wike’s entourage included National and State Assembly members, local government chairmen and government officials.
It was gathered that the President-elect would also be hosted at a state banquet later in the evening.
The governor had in a state broadcast on Tuesday, declared Wednesday as a holiday, because of Tinubu’s state visit and appealed to Rivers residents to come out en mass to welcome the President-elect.
The President-elect, during his two-day official visit to the State, will commission the Rumuola/Rumuokwuta flyover and the ultra-modern Magistrates’ Court Complex, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
He said during Tinubu’s presidential campaign visit to the State, he had indicated his intention to invite him to commission some key projects in the state after the general elections.
The governor disclosed that a formal invitation was sent to the President-elect after the general elections, which he graciously accepted.
Wike explained that Tinibu’s visit to the state would be the first official visit to any state after his emergence as Nigeria’s President-elect.
