Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged additional infrastructure projects in Kuje Area Council yesterday, while cautioning the chairman-elect against abandoning residents after taking office.
Speaking during a visit to appreciate voters for their support in recent council elections, he addressed traditional rulers, political leaders and residents. He framed politics as a binding covenant, emphasising that elected officials must stay engaged with their communities.
“Politics should be a contract between those elected and the people who elected them. It is not where our people vote for you and at the end of the day you disappear,” he declared.
The minister highlighted ongoing and upcoming road projects as proof of the Federal Government’s commitment, crediting the area’s backing for President Bola Tinubu. He noted that the Kuje Garage Road had been completed and commissioned, while the Airport Junction to Kuje Road, handled by Arab Contractors, had resumed work and would be ready by Tinubu’s third anniversary.
“We did not only award the Garage Road; it has been completed and commissioned. The contractor handling the Airport Road to Kuje has also returned to site and assured us the road will be ready for inauguration during the President’s third anniversary,” he said. He added that the 16-kilometre Kuje-Gwagwalada Road by Gilmor Engineering Nigeria Limited was advancing steadily, and would be potentially ready by June.

He promised to prioritise new roads with traditional rulers once the new chairman is sworn in. “By the time your chairman is sworn in, we will sit with the traditional rulers and decide which of the roads you mentioned we will start first,” he said.
He described the election outcome as a vote of confidence in Tinubu’s administration, fulfilling the president’s directive for officials to thank supporters personally.
Speaking directly to chairman-elect, Danladi Shekwolo, the minister hammered on grassroots accessibility. “Don’t be an away chairman. Be a home chairman. When you were campaigning, you were always at home. Now that you have won, do not run away from your people,” he warned, adding, “Power and money are two things that can change a man within seconds. But I believe you will not abandon your people.”
Outgoing Chairman, Abdullahi Sabo, praised Wike as a unifier and bridge builder, whose leadership had sped up FCT development. He called on residents to back the incoming administration for continued progress.
Shekwolo, in response, thanked Wike for campaign support and vowed to deliver democratic dividends. He requested roads linking Kuje to Gwagwa, Rubochi and Kebi to spur economic growth, assuring close collaboration with the FCT Administration.
