Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, yesterday, welcomed Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, back into the Rainbow Coalition, describing his pledge of loyalty to President Bola Tinubu as the right political move and insisting that there is no sin in politics.
“If someone realises he made a mistake and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that,” Wike said during an inspection of the Inner Southern Expressway (Goodluck Jonathan Way) and service carriageways along the Southern Parkway in Gaduwa District.
Wike said Fubara’s return to the political family that helped elevate him was expected and would strengthen support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. “He had no other choice but to return to the same political family that produced him,” Wike added.
While welcoming the reconciliation, the minister also vowed to deliver critical infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory. Asked the status of Goodluck Jonathan Way, Wike said the 10-kilometre Inner Southern Expressway, awarded in 2014 and running from the Southern Parkway to Ring Road II at Galadimawa, includes five bridges and remains one of the outstanding legacy projects carried over to President Tinubu’s administration.

“The contractor has promised to finish the remaining six kilometres and hand it over by the end of December,” Wike said, but he cautioned that completion is subject to the availability of funds. “We’ll continue to dialogue with the Minister of Finance to see how we’ll be able to access the funds and pay off the contractor to finish that project.”
On the significance of the road to the FCT, the minister described the expressway as a “major road” that would change the landscape of the FCT when completed. “It is very, very key to us and that of course will change the entire landscape of the FCT,” he said.
Speaking on other legacy projects, Wike said the Apo-Karshi Road, awarded in 2010, is near completion. “It will be a remarkable achievement for this administration to finish all projects awarded by the previous administration so that we don’t have abandoned projects everywhere,” he said, calling the progress “a good development for us, continuity.”
Wike also inspected two service carriageways of the Southern Parkway linking Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) in Gaduwa to Ring Road II. “The contractor has similarly promised to deliver by the end of December,” Wike said, expressing confidence in that timeline.
