In a case of rising incidents of domestic violence, a wife has allegedly stabbed her husband to death in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
The deceased, an Immigration Officer who served at the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and identified as Chidiebere James, a.k.a Agali, was said to have been stabbed to death by his wife, at their Umuizi, Umuogba Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area, following a quarrel.
A source close to the family said the crisis reportedly began, on Monday, after the couple engaged in a heated argument over their sick child, and the officer’s alleged inability to provide money for the medical treatment.
During the altercation, the woman was said to have accused her husband of infidelity, following the wife’s alleged discovery of incriminating messages on the deceased’s mobile phone.

Some family members were reported to have waded into the matter and temporarily restored peace.
The source hinted that just when everyone thought that the matter was over, tension rose again, Monday morning, in an uncontrollable manner.
The renewed quarrel was said to have degenerated into a physical fight and, in the process, the deceased’s phone was reportedly damaged, prompting him to seize and destroy his wife’s phone in retaliation.
The quarrel reportedly turned fatal when the woman allegedly picked a pair of scissors and stabbed her husband, who reportedly collapsed instantly, and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where he was confirmed dead by doctors. The body of the deceased was later deposited in the morgue.
As of the time of filing this report, Abia command of NIS was yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
