From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

Imo State Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) Calistus Ihejiagba has disclosed the reasons why thirteen members of the State Working Committee (SWC) were suspended.

Ihejiagba, briefing reporters shortly after a meeting at the party’s secretariat in Owerri over the weekend, alleged that the suspended members were instigating a crisis by their actions and had to be curtailed before they jeopardised the existing peace enjoyed by other members.

“We can’t condone sabotage and insubordination. We repose absolute confidence in the leadership of the party led by Julius Abure and his exco members; that is why we have passed a vote of confidence in him today and suspended those trying to cause a crisis in the party.

“There is no crisis in the Labour Party. We are a happy family, and we’re enjoying peace and tranquillity. We can’t allow sabotage, and that’s why we have suspended these members today.”

Meanwhile, he announced that a disciplinary committee has been set up to look into the allegations against the suspended members. The committee is chaired by the first Deputy Chairman of the party in the state, Queen Osuala.

The suspended members include: Paulinus Ugochukwu (State Secretary), Mr. Ikechukwu Osuaku, Emeka Ihejirika, Innocent NwaDavid, Sunday Ike, Dr. Chris Uzowuru, Mrs. Adanma Nwauka, Mr. Jude Enwereuzor, Amarachi Anyanwu, Emma Ihemadu, Joseph A. Mbama, Bright Ofuru, and Chief Charles Uzomba.
