Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has explained why President Bola Tinubu has not released records reportedly held by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), saying the documents contain sensitive personal information.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Omokri dismissed speculation surrounding the President’s FBI records and maintained that there was nothing mysterious about them.
He also rejected suggestions that the records indicate that Tinubu has a criminal history.
“The President has no criminal record,” Omokri said.
According to him, FBI records are not necessarily evidence of criminal conduct, arguing that ordinary individuals can also have records with the agency.
“These are FBI records which everybody has. I have an FBI record. You have an FBI record,” he said.
Omokri argued that the information contained in such records could include highly sensitive data that should not be made public.
To illustrate his point, he referred to a previous controversy involving Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who was accused by a woman of fathering her child.
Omokri recalled that the woman’s father had claimed to possess documents that could disprove the allegation but declined to release them publicly because they reportedly contained DNA information.

“One of the things the father said is that, ‘Look, I’ve got documents here that can prove that he’s not the father of that girl, but I cannot release those documents to you because they contain DNA records,’” he said.
He added that the father had expressed concern that releasing such information could expose Davido’s genetic data to potential misuse.
Using the example, Omokri said the same principle applied to the FBI records being demanded from Tinubu.
“That is why the President does not want to release these FBI records, because the FBI records, they contain your DNA records. They contain your blood,” he said.
The ambassador-designate also dismissed speculation about Tinubu’s age, saying the President’s declared age was his actual age.
“I mean, the President’s true age is his declared age,” Omokri said.
His comments come amid continued public interest in records relating to Tinubu reportedly held by US authorities and renewed calls for greater disclosure concerning the President’s past.
Omokri, however, maintained that the existence of FBI records should not by itself be interpreted as evidence of criminal activity, insisting that Tinubu has no criminal record.
