A momentous occasion, which underscores Sony Music West Africa’s commitment to embracing diverse musical genres and talent, was witnessed last Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the record company’s Lagos office.
It was Sony Music’s announcement of the historic signing of gospel artiste and worship minister, Onoriode Ebiere Ariyo, professionally known as Onos Ariyo.
Celebrated as a groundbreaking milestone, the event saw the Delta State-born Onos emerging as the first gospel singer to ink a deal with the globally reputed record label.
Renowned for her impactful music and heartfelt lyrics, Onos gained widespread recognition for her critically acclaimed song, Alagbara, which was written and produced by Nigerian music producer, Wilson Joel.
Onos’ ministry has touched several lives across the world, earning her a place among the Global Top 100 Most Influential People of African Descent in September 2018.
In his opening remarks, Oluwaseun ‘Banko’ Lloyd, General Manager of Sony Music West Africa, highlighted the timeliness of the partnership, emphasizing the synergy between Onos’ powerful music ministry and the label’s vision for elevating African talent on a global stage. “This alliance holds immense promise for success, and we are excited to embark on this journey with Onos,” he said.
Onos expressed her gratitude and excitement at becoming the first gospel artist to sign with Sony Music West Africa.
“This is a humbling and historic milestone for me and for the gospel music industry,” she shared. “Revealing Jesus through music has always been my passion, and I’m grateful for the journey God has taken me on since my debut single in 2009. With this partnership, I look forward to even greater things ahead.”
With her new deal with Sony Music, Onos has now joined an exciting list of renowned music ministers like Kirk Franklin, Donald Lawrence, Kierra Sheard, Mali Music and Koryn Hawthorne among others, who are signed to the label.
