Why rescued Oyo pupils are yet to rejoin their families — Makinde

Seyi Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said the rescued schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area will remain in military custody for medical attention and routine screening.

Makinde disclosed this on Saturday while speaking with journalists after visiting the 2 Division Medical Centre, where the victims are currently receiving treatment.

He explained that the rescued victims would remain under close monitoring before they are officially reunited with their families.

“I’m extremely happy that the children and their teachers are back. We will monitor them over the next 48 hours. Some of them are still very frail and need medical intervention, and that will be addressed.

“A final assessment is scheduled for Monday, after which the military is expected to hand the victims over to the state government,” the governor said.
