The Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) is set for the 5th edition of the prestigious Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA), which will hold at Radisson Blu, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos from September 2-3, 2026.
Over the years, NEMCEA has grown into Nigeria’s foremost marketplace for the discovery, exhibition, exchange and celebration of television, radio and electronic media content.
In his remarks at the press conference heralding the event, EMCOAN President, Adeniji Omirin, said as an association representing organisations responsible for a significant proportion of content within Nigeria’s media ecosystem, “EMCOAN recognises that the future of our industry will be determined not only by technology, but by the quality, creativity, ownership, sustainability and commercial value of the content we produce. That is why this year’s NEMCEA is particularly significant.”
According to him, this year’s theme: ‘The Creator’s Economy – Elevate Your Craft, Secure Your Future’ reflects the realities of the rapidly changing creative economy.
He stated: “Today, content creators are no longer confined to the traditional television and radio studios. Content is being created, distributed and consumed across multiple platforms and devices.
“Artificial intelligence, streaming platforms, social media, connected television, digital broadcasting and other emerging technologies are fundamentally changing how content is produced, distributed, consumed and monetised.
“But while technology is creating new opportunities, it is also creating new challenges. The fundamental question before us is: How do we empower the creator to elevate his or her craft, while ensuring that the intellectual property, commercial value and economic future of that creator are secured?
“This is at the heart of NEMCEA 2026. We want to move the conversation beyond simply creating content to building sustainable content businesses and sustainable careers.”
Also speaking on the 2026 theme, NEMCEA Project Director, Stephen Alayande, said the choice is both intentional and urgent.
“The creative industry in Nigeria and across Africa is no longer an informal side hustle, it is a formidable driver of gross domestic product, youth employment, and global soft power. However, a persistent challenge remains: bridging the gap between artistic passion and long-term financial security. Too many storytellers transition from viral moments into financial vulnerability. NEMCEA 2026 is designed to change that narrative.
“Our focus this year is to move the industry from mere content creation to sustainable wealth creation, ensuring that practitioners across television, radio, and inline platforms do not only
elevate the aesthetic and technical quality of their craft, but also robustly secure their intellectual property, revenue streams, and financial futures.”
NEMCEA 2026 has been deliberately designed with greater depth and wider industry participation. The event will feature high-level conferences and panel discussions, NEMCEA Master Class Series, Director-General’s Roundtable, Content Exhibition, and Awards Night.
Each segment has been carefully structured to provide practical knowledge, meaningful engagement, networking opportunities and business value for participants.
However, there are two particularly important additions to this year’s event. First is a special focus on ‘Exploring the Creative Industry Opportunity for Insurance & Risk Management’. This conversation will be championed by one of the lead sponsors, Standard Insurance Consultants Limited.
On the significance of the insurance segment, Omirin emphasised that the creative industry represents an enormous economic opportunity, yet many creators, producers, broadcasters and content owners remain inadequately protected against the risks associated with their businesses.
“From production risks and equipment to intellectual property, liability, business interruption, talent and other emerging risks, there is a need for the insurance industry to better understand and respond to the peculiar requirements of the creative economy.
“NEMCEA 2026, therefore, provides an important platform to bring these two sectors together. We believe that you cannot secure the future of the creator without addressing risk. And that is why this conversation is so important,” he stressed.
Another major addition to the this year’s activities is the Digital Switch Over (DSO) and its implications for Nigeria’s broadcasting ecosystem. Here, the panelists will examine the opportunities created by DSO, particularly for content producers, broadcasters, advertisers, regulators and audiences. They will also dwell on the critical issue of audience measurement and the future of Free TV in Nigeria.
Top industry leaders will grace NEMCEA 2026. They include Mr. Yinka Adebayo, Group Executive Director, Omnicom Media Group; Ms. Neha Sharma, Vice President, Marketing Africa and VP East Africa, Zee World; Prof. Ahmed bin Salawudeen, President and CEO, Standard Insurance Consultants Limited; Mr. Rotimi Pedro, Chairman, Digital Switch Over Team; and Mr. Uwem Afanide, Managing Director, All Seasons Zenith Media.
The NEMCEA Director-General’s Roundtable is expected to bring together the Directors-General of major government agencies and institutions within the media and communications ecosystem.
Expected to participate in the
Roundtable is the leadership of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Voice of Nigeria (VON), National Orientation Agency (NOA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and other relevant stakeholders.
At the media parley were representatives of the sponsors such as Zee World, Standard Insurance Consultants Ltd., LAPO Microfinance Bank, NBC, ARCON, NTA, and other meda agencies.
