The Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management, Chief Bukola Olopade, has explained why he chooses to focus on sports marketing and development.
Speaking with a team of The Sun Publishing Limited, led by the Managing Director, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, represented by Mr Iheanacho Nwosu, the Editor, Daily, Olopade said his interest in sports is to grow the sector to help shore up the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria, stressing the sector has a lot to contribute to the economy of the country.
“I want to see a Nigeria where new young boys and girls are sports entrepreneurs because the sports business is huge business. I want to see a Nigeria that recognises that sports is a contributor to the GDP of this country.
“I disagree publicly with the former Vice President in 2018 when he said 43 agencies that contributors to the GDP of Nigeria without including sports. I went on national TV to disagree with the Vice President, that sports was not captured. “Luckily for me, that same year KPMG wrote an article on the contribution of response to the economic development of this country. KPMG went further to advise that if Nigeria ignores E Sports and football and athletics, it should be to the detriment of the young people of Nigeria because E Sports, can contribute to reducing poverty in the country,” Olopade said.
