Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, yesterday said her passion for the welfare of women living in the state was the major reason she offered them free cervical cancer screening and treatment.

Coordinator of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo and Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, who stood in for the First Lady during a press conference at the LightHouse, said in addition to that, Mrs Soludo had consistently demonstrated that the health and wellbeing of Ndi Anambra remain her top priority.

“Thousands of women have benefited from the free cervical cancer screening and treatment, giving hope where there was despair.

“Children born with cleft lips and palates now smile with dignity, thanks to free corrective surgeries.

“Our state has witnessed statewide free vaccination campaigns against Rotavirus, Measles and Polio, safeguarding the future of our children.

“Over 14,000 Nonye’s Healthy Living Pap have been distributed to malnourished children across primary health centres (PHCs), with recovery rates surpassing 50 percent.”

Mrs Soludo said that anti-shock garments, which she has made available to women, would save mothers from untimely deaths during childbirth.

“As ITN ambassador by the malaria consortium, over 3.8 million insecticide treated nets (ITNs) were distributed free of charge to most households in the state, protecting our families against malaria, one of the leading killers of children and mothers.

“More than 26,000 elderly people have received free multivitamin supplements to support healthy ageing and dignity kits to elderly during flooding.

“One thousand persons with disabilities have been enrolled free into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring equity and inclusiveness.

“Over 15,000 packs of hybrid seeds have been freely distributed to encourage home gardens and food security,” she said.
