Why I no longer grant interviews on Nigerian economy – Moghalu
By John Ogunsemore
Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Kingsley Moghalu has revealed why he no longer honours media interview invitations to speak on the Nigerian economy.
The 2019 presidential candidate of Young Progressives Party (YPP) compared continuous discussion on the Nigerian economy to a “dialogue of the deaf”.
Moghalu advised any media organisation seeking his input on discourse centred on the Nigerian economy to consult his previous contributions.
“I’ve declined virtually all requests for media interviews and speeches, national and international, on the Nigerian economy over the past several months.
“Why? There is no point in a dialogue of the deaf. I’ve already spoken a lot about how to fix Nigeria’s economy. Anyone interested can find what I’ve said,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday, September 10.
Moghalu recently advised African nations to look inward if seeking to experience economic development as witnessed by many Asian nations in recent decades.
He said, “Any way you slice it, Africa’s ‘dialogues’ with the great powers are unlikely to yield the kind of transformation Asian countries have witnessed in past decades.
“Development begins in the mind and is driven first by a clear understanding of the world, national ambition, values, and strategy.
“It can’t be imposed top-down from outside, but must be bottom-up and driven from inside countries themselves, and by BOTH the leaders (political elite) and the led (citizens).”
