A  source in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday disclosed that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has not been charged to court because investigations involving him are still underway.

El-Rufai was grilled by the EFCC investigators between Monday February 9 and Wednesday February 11, 2026, over alleged N432 billion theft when he governed Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023.

According to the source, investigators were continuing to review materials and gather necessary evidence before determining the next course of action.

According to the source, the delay in filing formal charges should not be interpreted as abandonment of the matter, but rather as a part of due process.

“The reason he has not been charged in court is that investigations are not yet concluded.

“Once the process is complete, the appropriate legal steps will be taken,” the source hinted.

“We are still investigating the former governor. So we are yet to conclude our investigations, but he was released on bail last Wednesday.

“We will then charge him in court after the completion of our investigations of various allegations levelled against him,” the source said.

While details of the specific allegations under review remain undisclosed, the development has generated public interest, particularly given el-Rufai’s latest suit against the ICPC and alleged poor health condition, and refusal to allow him to see his wife while in custody.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the anti-graft agency were unsuccessful as of press time.
