From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Suleiman Hamisu Dangurawa, has said that the leader of his party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would only consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) if the party reforms its governance style and ensures the security of lives and property.
He made the remarks on Thursday while speaking to journalists about his preparations for the party’s wards, local government, and state congresses.
Dangurawa said, “Today, the APC is confused and in disarray. That is why they are looking to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as their saviour. Without him, they are not going anywhere in 2027, which is why they are making overtures to him.”
He rebuked the APC for creating distorted national structures, insecurity, and widespread hardship in the country, but held that Kano State under the leadership of NNPP remained the safest state in Nigeria.
For Kwankwaso to join the APC, he said the party must review its governance approach—a situation he added would restore public confidence.

The party chairman insisted that Kwankwaso has the right to contest the presidency, recalling that former President Atiku Abubakar has been contesting the same position since 1992.
“Kwankwaso has contested only twice. It is his right to run, and he has the experience, having been a former governor who delivered on his mandate,” he said.
The NNPP chairman also outlined Kwankwaso’s security plan, stating that if elected Nigeria’s president, he would recruit over three million personnel across the Army, DSS, Police, and other security agencies to safeguard the nation.
Dangurawa acknowledged Kwankwaso’s legacy in Kano State, pointing out that the current administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf has been benefiting from his governance blueprint.
