The African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Assembly candidate in Abia State, Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya, has expressed confidence that the party is well-positioned to perform strongly in the 2027 general elections, citing its expanding grassroots network, broad coalition and growing public support.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, Ogbonnaya said the ADC has evolved into a formidable political platform by attracting members from across Nigeria’s major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and others.
According to her, the coalition was formed by politicians determined to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative.
“ADC is a coalition of people from all the parties who came together and felt the need to rescue Nigeria. We have members from APC, Labour Party, APGA and other political parties who have joined us,” she said.
Ogbonnaya maintained that the party’s greatest strength lies in its grassroots presence, revealing that it has established structures down to the polling-unit level through its network of 30-man polling-unit leaders.
“ADC as a party can boast and brag about its grassroots presence,” she said.
“We have structures down to the polling unit. We have what we call 30-man polling-unit leaders, and that has strengthened our grassroots mobilisation,” she added.
She disclosed that the party would commence a tour of all 17 local government areas in Abia State from July 25 to engage residents, introduce its candidates and explain the party’s vision ahead of the elections.
The House of Assembly hopeful also said the ADC has fielded candidates for every State House of Assembly constituency, House of Representatives seat and other elective offices across Abia State, describing it as evidence of the party’s readiness for the 2027 polls.
On campaign financing, Ogbonnaya argued that genuine public support would ultimately outweigh financial resources.
“When people love an idea, they don’t look at money,” she stated.
She further attributed the party’s continued growth to the conviction of its supporters despite internal disagreements, insisting the ADC remains united under the leadership of Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.
Ogbonnaya also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to women’s participation in politics, noting that it had reduced nomination fees for women and persons with disabilities while implementing its 35 per cent gender affirmative policy.
If elected, she pledged to sponsor legislation aimed at expanding entrepreneurship opportunities for women and youths, support rural women through improved access to funding and agricultural inputs, and ensure effective oversight of government programmes to guarantee the implementation of laws.
