Whereabouts of ex-Oyo MILAD’s daughter, Toyin, unveiled

From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

Many have wondered about the whereabouts of the ex-Oyo State Military Administrator, Major General Abdulkareem Adisa’s daughter, Toyin after his father’s death in 2005.

A family source revealed that his wife, Khadijat, relocated to Ghana in 2010, five years after her husband died in an auto crash. It is believed that she raised Toyin who is now a second year undergraduate student of nursing in the West African country.

Recall that Adisa, a former military governor of Oyo State from August, 1990 to January 1992, under the General Ibrahim Babangida regime and Minister of Works and Housing under the Abacha regime, was condemned to death with other alleged coup plotters by the General Victor Malu Tribunal.

As fate would have it, on June 8th, 1998, the day Abacha was to attend the African Union meeting of heads of state, Abacha who overthrew the Interim National Government led by Chief Ernest Shonekan in November, 1993, died.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar who succeeded Abacha, granted Adisa and his colleagues state pardon and released them from detention.

One year and two days after General Olusegun Obasanjo was inaugurated president, precisely on June 1, 2000, Adisa’s wife, Khadijat Adisa, gave birth to Toyin at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, in Kwara State.

Unfortunately, Adisa died in a car crash on February 25, 2005 when Toyin was just four years, nine months, and one week old.

In a chat, with Tunde Ibrahim and Nafiu Nuhu who are Toyin’s uncle, they revealed how she was christened by their uncle.

“Toyin’s naming ceremony was conducted by my uncle’s father, Baba Aluko, along with my mother who is General Adisa’s elder sister. Baba Aluko gave her the name Toyin Belawu Akanke at Oke Aluko on Taiwo Road, Ilorin.”

He added that “Khadijat is a caring humble person and our relationship with her has been cordial since General Adisa died.”

On his part, Tunde’s brother, Nafiu said: “Khadijat and Toyin are a source of pride to our family. Toyin is a brilliant girl and is doing well in school in Ghana where she and her mother, Khadijat are staying.”

Meanwhile, the late General, who was born in 1948 and died at the age of 56 in a ghastly car accident, would have been 76 years old on August 22nd, 2024.
