On the seventh day of June, 2023, is a day I will never forget in my life. It was a day that broke leaving me with the feelings of being fatherless even when my real father is still healthy and living.
Though, I have lost people close to me in the past (uncles, friends, cousins, grandparents etc) but none has gotten to me like the lost of my lifetime chairman, Boss, mentor and role model Senator Annie Clement Okonkwo “Agunaechemba”.
Agunaechemba was not just a tittle, Sen Annie Okonkwo was indeed a Lion who guarded the Land till death took him. His demise undoubtedly, left so much pains in the world. Sen Annie Okonkwo was not God but the role he played in the last 63 years made me see him as a living God.
Working with him for almost 15 years changed my life. Just 10 years before his death, he talked me into marrying at early age at just 27, just like his brother Tony Okonkwo said at his service of songs, he doesn’t need your opinion when advising you, he advises and conclude. He believes everything is possible.
His words were “Anayo Okolie, you will never regret the decision of get married at early age, and your fear is how to sustain, I will always support you and your family,” and he never failed on those promises until death came.
I walked into the marriage with fear but today, it is has become the greatest decision I have made in life , thanks to you my Chairman Sen Annie Okonkwo. One of my greatest fears was living without Sen Annie Okonkwo and the day that thought came through, I rebooked it immediately, I never knew it will later come to past.
Senator gave me the opportunity no one has even given to me, I flew to different states with him in pjs, tour different communities with him and met a lot of prominent figures through him. Meeting and working with Sen Annie Okonkwo was indeed a blessing. He shaped my life and extended his kindness to my family and people around me.
Sen Annie Clement Okonkwo impacted and empowered a lot lives, which I am one of the beneficiaries of his kind gestures. His death hits me like a volcano and the heeling is not near. God give me the strength to live without you Chairman.
Leaving the earth a day to my 10th marriage anniversary 7th June, left a big Scar in my heart. That night was one of the toughest nights of my life, losing a good man to the cold hands of death. It is well.
I subscribed to Sen Ekwunife’s assertion at the floor of the Senate that: “if death could take the life of Sen Annie Clement Okonkwo, it means that death is real.” Death indeed is real Sen Ekwunife, it doesn’t have respect for anyone irrespective of your class and level. Sen Annie Okonkwo has all it takes to get a luxury treatment anywhere in the world.” Death is real.
Despite months of your death, I am still finding it very difficult to adjust to reality that you are no more. You are gone but your legacies will never depart Chairman.
Senator was a reliable man. He was a bold and God-fearing man. The greatness of his life was built on godly principles and is worthy of emulation.
He spent Most of his life on earth impacting and investing in the lives of other people. We are all witnesses to just how much fruit this noble investment has yielded.
Agunaechemba, will be greatly missed. History will always remember Sen Annie Okonkwo for the key role he played in transforming the world in his time.
Farewell Senator, you are a legend.
