We’ve run criminals aground in Delta, CP tells IGP confab

Commissioner  of   Police, Delta  State, Mr.  Olufemi   Abaniwonda, has said in Abuja: “We  have run criminals aground in the state. We arrested over 130 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists. We also rescued 20 victims  and recovered 178 live cartridges along  Bomadi-Tuomo Road.” 

He was speaking at the Inspector General of Police  [IGP] conference:  “We recorded huge achievement in the fight against crime and criminality. Our mandate as given to us by IGP Olukayode Egbetokun is that Deltans must enjoy peace. Deltans can attest to the fact that in recent time, the state has become very hot for criminals. The command has imbibed community policing .   

“Operatives  from Bomadi   Division  with the support of Bomadi vigilantes arrested 62-year-old woman  during stop and search and intercepted 178 live cartridges  from Onitisha Main Market, Anambra State. Also,  Police Divisional  Ekpan  arrested  seven suspected kidnappers, all from  the Ubeji community  and rescued their victims.

“Police at  Oleh arrested three suspected cult members of Eiye  Confraternity. The Rapid  Response  Squad, along the Asaba-Benin Expressway,  arrested a suspect and intercepted gun runner and recovered one fabricated Beretta pistol, one pump  action shotgun, four live ammunition.

“Operatives arrested 20-year-old  herbalist  step brother  in a shrine at Owa-Alidima, Ika North  East LG  and recovered bodies of two victims.

The CP -Special  Assignment Team  [SAT] arrested four suspected kidnappers and armed robbers  in operation in a bush along Upper Agbarho and Ovivi-Ogor communities in Ughhelli North LG. The  Special  Anti—Kidnapping and  Cybercrime Squad, through intelligence  arrested two  suspected kidnappers when they stormed their hideout at Agidase  village  in Ogwashi—Uku  where they recovered a Toyota Matrix vehicle  and a network jammer circuit device.

“Police  Divisional headquarters, Ekpan, arrested two suspected notorious armed robbers in Ometan community building. Police  Divisional headquarters, Ogwashi  Uku,  arrested three suspected armed robbers.  Operatives  of the Delta State  Eagle  Net  Special  Squad in a joint operation with the Nigeria  Hunters Forest Security  Service [NHFSS] arrested 10  suspects with a substantial quantity of illicit  drugs.

“Operatives of Rapid Respond  Squad   along DBS Road, Asaba. intercepted a suspect and recovered one English Beretta pistol , while  the suspect and other gang syndicate involved in breaking people homes carted  away their properties.  The CP-Decoy Squad acting on credible information stormed a criminals’ hideout at Ubulu-OkitSiennai community and arrested three suspects.

“Police patrol team attached to Eagle-Net Special Squad,  along Asaba-Ibusa Road, intercepted a Toyota sienna car Reg ASB 615 YF, arrested a suspect and recovered 75 rounds of live cartridges.  The squad on visibility patrol with NFSS arrested two suspected of an ex–convicts involved in robbery and recovered stolen motorcycle.

“The  Area Command, Ughelli, last year arrested suspected armed robbers at Niger Delta University, Oghara. The CP Decoy Squad arrested suspects terrorising Idumu –Ode Quarters of Umuolo,Onitcha–Ugbo community, Aniocha. The area  command embarked on a raid of suspected criminals’ hideouts and arrested three suspects for drug peddling  within Afisere-Ughelli town and recovered 355 bottles of CSC codeine, 57 rolls of 100mg tramadol capsules, 33rolls of 200mg Super Royal,7bank 

woods, 550 sachets of Swinol capsules and 16 cups of Canadian liquid cannabis.

“The Area Command, Ughelli led a surveillance team along Effunrun-Sapele Road and arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered of two stolen vehicles. Meanwhile, the CP Special Assignment team arrested eight syndicate of robbers, fraudsters  specialising in robbing and defrauding unsuspecting victims of their valuables. The victims were defrauded of over N23.5 million.

“DPO, B  Division, Asaba, recovered a stolen Mercedes-Benz GLK, Reg NZM 10 AP, about to be sold at a dealer’s shop in Asaba. The suspect confessed to snatching, shooting the rightful owner vehicle at Abakpa , Enugu State.

The  CP  SAT  busts the hideout  of the hideout of suspected ritualists, internet  fraudsters in Aniocha South LG. Also, DPO, Ogwashi–Uku , arrested two suspected armed robbers and a local vigilante group along  Chelsea Street.”
