Baring any last minute changes, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government, would in February, 2018, embark on a general overhauling of the ECOWAS Commission structure.
The move, according to Daily Sun’s findings, is as a result of the current state of ineffectiveness of the commission.
The reorganisation would ensure that the ECOWAS Commission meets the mandate of the West African sub-regional body.
A highly competent source privy to the development who spoke to Daily Sun on condition of anonymity, said the overhauling was necessitated by the need to get the desired results and mandate which necessitated the establishment ECOWAS.
The source added that the President of Cote d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, has always been very critical of the present composition of the ECOWAS Commission structure and its efficiency, believing that the commission was not yielding the desired results.
The source added that it was no longer news that ECOWAS is bedevilled by administrative ineffectiveness, but was quick to add that hopefully in February, the commission would be reorganised.
On the issue of language barrier hampering the effectiveness of the commission, the source dismissed the issue with a wave of the hand, saying that it had nothing to do with the proper administration of the ECOWAS Commission.
