Daniel Igali, President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, has commended the federation’s athletes for always making the nation proud whenever they participate in any international competitions.

Igali told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja that Team Nigeria had an outstanding performance in the just-concluded 2025 African Senior Wrestling Championship in Casablanca, Morocco.

The president said that on the first day of the competition, Team Nigeria won four gold medals in the female category, and won 13 medals at the end of the championship.

“The girls did well in their events. Wrestlers like Christianah Ogunsanya, Esther Kolawole, Damola Ojo and Hannah Reuben, each won a gold medal on the first day. They all fought well.

“This was one of the best performances ever. I really congratulate them for the job well done. We want them to continue with this momentum in their subsequent events.

“The target of the federation is to organise more competitions to discover more young wrestlers that will represent the country in future competitions.
