The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), has said the threat by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to boycott the Local Government election slated for October 15 has not been communicated to the commission.
The OSIEC Chairman, Otunba Segun Oladitan, said he only read it on social media and no official message was received by the commission.
He said the PDP shouldn’t have boycotted the election, noting that he was aware of the sections of the electoral act that the party is relying upon to say that the commission does not have the right to conduct the election.
“We have not received an official message from PDP. Even at that, they shouldn’t have boycotted. Instead of boycotting the election, they should participate and let us go and try that in a court of law.
“Before we fix a date for the conduct of the local government election, all political parties were involved and a PDP representative was present.
“We are not deterred about the action of PDP, we are going ahead with the conduct of the election. Boycotting the election will not stop the process,” Oladitan maintained.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of PDP, Dr. Adekunle Akindele, had said participating in the election will amount to taking part in illegality.
