Welfare of students: NANS locks horns with TASUED VC, demands removal

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has demanded the immediate removal of the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASUED), Professor Adekunle Adeogun.

This is contained in a Friday statement signed by National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NANS, Comrade Samson Ajasa Adeyemi and sent to Daily Sun.

According to the student body, the demand follows a series of alleged administrative failures, blatant lack of empathy for student welfare, and a refusal to protect the student body from external aggression.

The statement reads, “The leadership of NANS National is appalled by the cold indifference displayed by the University Management in the wake of the recent assault and victimisation of the student leadership.

“We must ask the University Management and the Governing Council: If a Student Union President the number one student citizen and the legitimate representative of thousand students can be molested, harassed, and unjustly suspended, what is the hope for the ordinary student?”

“It is the primary responsibility of any University head to serve as a ‘loco parentis’ to the students.

“However, the Acting Vice-Chancellor has failed woefully in this regard. By presiding over a management that colludes with oppressors rather than defending its own students, the Acting VC has lost the moral authority to lead a temple of learning.”

NANS said Nigerian students would no longer tolerate a system where those paid to manage their academic welfare become the architects of their victimisation.

“We cannot have an Acting VC who watches while student leaders are treated like criminals for demanding justice.

“NANS National remains firm in its resolve: The Acting Vice-Chancellor must step down, and the unjust suspension of the SUG President must be reversed immediately.

“We will not negotiate on the safety and dignity of our members,” the statement further reads.

Prof. Adeogun emerged Acting VC in October 2025, replacing Prof. Wole Banjo, whose five-year tenure lapsed by November 4, 2025.
