From Noah Ebije, Kaduna

The Senator representing Zone 3 Senatorial District of Kaduna State, Senator Sunday Marshal Katung has said that there was no running away from the fact that, “Nigerians are simply tired of insecurity”, describing it as, the “equivalent of subsidy”.

However, Senator Katung said the legislature is making frantic efforts to make laws that will terminate insecurity and poverty across the country.

The lawmaker fielded questions from Reporters shortly after he attended church thanksgiving service in honour of Most Reverend Timothy Yahaya over his election to the rank of Archbishop in the Anglican communion, Kaduna province.

The Senator also assured that the legislature and the executive in collaboration with the Service Chiefs are working tirelessly to ensure that insecurity becomes a thing of the past in the country.

He noted that if necessary measures were put in place before the removal of fuel subsidy, people wouldn’t have been subjected to too much suffering that they are currently going through.

“First and foremost I want to keep the record straight that I was able to attend this function because the celebrant is somebody I believe in. He is just to show gratitude to God for what He has done for him in life. We recognise him as one of our own and that is why we come in this number to show solidarity.

“As for insecurity in Southern Kaduna, the Chief of Defence Staff is not a Chief of Defence Staff for Southern Kaduna. He is a Chief of Defence Staff for Nigeria. If you are a student of history and contemporary history in particular, you will know that insecurity has bedevilled the entire country, not just southern Kaduna.

“So the legislature, the executive, we are all putting heads together to ensure that this insecurity is brought to an end. The Service Chiefs led by the Chief of Defence Staff have assured us that they have the formula to end this issue of insecurity.

“And we believe them because we have seen efforts in the recent past indicating that they are serious in tackling insecurity and bringing it to an end. So we urge them to keep up the efforts because Nigerians are simply tired.

“The major role of the legislature is lawmaking, so we are bringing laws to ensure that insecurity and poverty are eliminated. But this we can do with collaboration with the Executive as well.

“So we are doing the best we can to see that the people do not suffer unnecessarily on account of this equivalent of fuel subsidy. While subsidy is good, there should be measures to ensure that people are not subject to too much suffering”. Senator Katung said.
