For Ikenna Desmond Obumkaneme, the CEO of BrightGrid Innovations Ltd, the future of Nigeria’s power supply lies not in wires or fossil fuels but in the sun. With a bold vision and practical steps already in motion, the young clean energy advocate is setting his sights on transforming how Nigerians power their lives.

“My vision is simple,” says Ikenna. “A Nigeria where every home, shop, clinic, and school can rely on clean, affordable solar energy without needing a generator as backup.”

BrightGrid Innovations, founded about two years ago, is already making headway. The company’s solutions aim to be both scalable and inclusive ensuring that energy access isn’t just a privilege for a few.

“Solar isn’t just technology,” Ikenna Desmond explains. “It’s a tool that can unlock economic growth, better healthcare, peace of mind and real change. Nigeria is ready for it.”

Looking ahead, Ikenna Desmond believes the goal is within reach. “By 2040, we want to be powering 20,000 homes and small businesses. With local action and the right mindset, we can prove that a cleaner Nigeria is not only possible it’s necessary.”
