The Abdulraham Mohammed-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the party is growing stronger and has become the beautiful bride ahead of the 2027 general election.
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, in reaction to comments by the Senate President, said the opposition party is rebuilding and emerging stronger.
Akpabio, while speaking at the commissioning of a road project in Abuja, had reportedly said that the PDP was dead and admonished the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to let it remain so.
However, the opposition party, while stating that the Senate President’s view is in contrast to the reality on the ground, noted that it understands the anxiety of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the growing momentum of the PDP.
It noted that “the growing momentum around our great party is visible and undeniable. The recent decision of Iyabo Obasanjo to identify with the PDP; the coming of Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami to the umbrella family; our impressive victory in the Adamawa State Local Government elections; our triumph in the Rivers State Senate by-election; and the steady influx of political leaders and stakeholders from Katsina, Jigawa, Imo, Oyo, and several other states into the PDP, to mention but a few, clearly demonstrate that our party continues to broaden its national appeal and consolidate its position ahead of future elections.
“These developments stand in sharp contrast to the claim by the President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio, that the PDP is ‘Dead,’ and urging the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to ‘allow what is dead to remain dead.’

“With profound respect for the President of the Senate and the exalted office he occupies, we must state that such a declaration is more reflective of political wishful thinking than the reality on the ground.”
The party added that “the greater irony is that the very project at whose commissioning the Senate President sought to write the political obituary of the PDP was conceived, executed and delivered under the supervision of a distinguished member of the PDP, who is presently on political loan and rendering invaluable service in the APC administration.
“A proud PDP member remains the most outstanding and best-performing minister in this administration. If anything, the occasion was a celebration of the competence, capacity and leadership that the PDP has consistently produced over the years.
“Indeed, one cannot commission the achievements of a PDP man in the morning and suggest that the PDP is dead and no longer relevant in the afternoon.
“We understand the anxiety within the ruling party over the growing momentum of the PDP as it consolidates internally, expands its support base, and reconnects with Nigerians across the country. Such anxiety is understandable, given the increasing confidence that Nigerians continue to repose in our great party.
“We are confident that, at the appropriate time, Nigerians will once again entrust the PDP with the responsibility of providing purposeful, inclusive and people-oriented leadership for our country.”
